2. BEST FFAF (Fun for a Fiver)

Throw a penny in the Trevi Fountain, thus guaranteeing your return to Rome, or so the legend goes… That’s MFFAF – Multiple fun for a fiver! Just keep throwing in those pennies, the more money the Italian government make, the more likely they’ll let you back in.

4. BEST non-tourist attraction

“S. Maria In Trastevere”. The Church of Santa Maria just south of the river. One of the best churches in Rome, but a little way off the regular tourist routes. I couldn’t believe the amazing frescos in here, it’s free to get in and won’t be crazy busy like the Pantheon or the Sistine Chapel. Admittedly, it is a lot smaller and less impressive than either of those.

5. BEST unexpected experience

The monument to the unknown soldier. The massive white structure can be seen from a long way off. We were intrigued as to what it was! I got my photos and then moved on to the Pantheon… only later did I discover it was for the Unknown Soldier. They’ve made a real effort with this one! The photo does not do justice to the scale of it. I’ve Seen a few of these monuments in cities around the world, and this is still the winner!
