1. El Fogon
El Fogon Playa Del Carmen
El Fogon is a household name in Playa Del Carmen, it was even given a shout-out in the hit Netflix series “Master Of None”. Their Al Pastor tacos are an absolute must try if you are looking for an authentic taste of the region. You’ll recognise El Fogon by the line of hungry people outside every night waiting for a table (yes it’s that popular) and the rotating trompos which is similar to the rotating meat you would expect to see in a kebab or shawarma shop, except the meat on here is noticeably red as it’s marinated in the local achiote chile…and incredibly delicious. We recommend ordering the Alambre mix which gives you a nice taste of many of the food options available at El Fogon….trust you you’ll want to eat here every night it’s so good.

If you are wanting to find a tasty meal on Playa Del Carmen’s famous 5th Avenue then Las Hijas de la Tostada is the place to go. This hip, easy to find restaurant, offers tortillas with a twist. Rather than the traditional soft tacos that you may know and love tostadas are a flat toasted tortilla that is topped with amazing local fresh seafood. Try the Shrimp tostadas or the Spicy Raw Tuna for something a bit more exciting.

You can’t visit Mexico and not have the famous Fish Tacos! And one of the best places to grab a fresh fish taco and a refreshing Mexican craft beer is Los Aguachiles. This place is super trendy and popular with both tourists and locals. They also have an amazing supply of local sauces on every table for you to try on some tortilla chips, or to add some zing to your tacos. Also, make sure you try out one of Mexico’s tasty craft beers. The craft beer scene is steadily growing in popularity in Mexico and you can find some really great brews. We personally love a crisp IPA, but give them all a try and see which one is your favorite.

Don Chendo Deep dish pizza
If you are a lover of a great Chicago style deep dish pizza then Don Chendo is the place for you. The owner is a New York born chef with a love of deep dish pizza. He even had the pizza trays made especially for the restaurant so that he could perfectly replicate the flavors of a traditional Chicago deep dish pizza. They also have other Italian specialties on the menu including spaghetti and meatballs, and some desserts that are to die for.
