The time has come again where the leaves are falling off the trees, and the temperatures have started to dip. Ready or not winter is on its way.

I personally have spent many years chasing the sun trying to avoid winter at all costs. Growing up in Australia the lowest temperatures where I lived were about 5 degrees celsius (41 f), so when I actually encountered a real European winter I was so full of “NOPE” I went on a path of visiting Thailand, Mexico, Morocco, and other warm destinations every time the seasons started to cool. Fast forward to 2019 and Tommo and decided to move permanently to Tbilisi, Georgia, where staying put meant we would have to endure our first winter in 7 years. I knew that If I was to ever go outside during the winter months I’d have to harden up fast…..or find a way to beat the cold.

This is how I discovered heated jackets exist. YES, that’s right! Modern technology has done right but us once again and there is such a thing as a heated jacket. The battery gives you 3 hours on high, 6 hours on medium, and 10 hours on a low heat setting with a single battery charge. So far I’ve never had it run out on me!

These jackets were total game changers for Tommo and me as we took our heated jackets for a test run on our last trip back in 2019 to Lithuania, Sweden, and Belarus – we knew these destinations in winter would certainly be a challenge for these jackets. The way the heating elements are placed ensures your most important parts are kept warm i.e. your back and chest so this does leave your arms to fend for themselves a bit….make sure you can keep them warm as this is where we felt the cold the most. You might start off first thing in the morning with the jacket on it’s highest level, but as you walk around a bit and (hopefully) get a bit of sunshine, you might want to drop the temperature down to a lower setting or off completely. In fact, on their own, these jackets are incredibly warm and comfortable to wear.

You might be wondering as foodies who, let’s admit it, often drop food on themselves (well I do at least) how can you keep a heated jacket clean? You can’t just throw something like that in the washing machine, right?

I couldn’t believe it when I read that these heated jackets and the elements are completely machine washable! You have to take the battery pack out first of course, but other than that you can just throw them in the wash. So I don’t have to worry about being a messy eater when wearing my heated jacket. Wine and food stains – begone!

I am planning on giving my jacket a lot of use even this year in 2020 – sure we haven’t been travelling as much….ok we haven’t been travelling at all, but it is so important in the upcoming winter months to get outside and get some fresh air to keep sane while in lockdown. I plan to take my heated jacket out when I go for a walk, when I need to run to the shops, and for any outdoor activity we are permitted to do in the coming months. These jackets have been game-changers for us.
