Here are some of our favorite Mediterranean Cruise Destinations that you should add to your bucket list.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Any lover of Game of Thrones is going to love a visit to Dubrovnik where you can see many of the locations where the hit TV show was filmed. But even if you have never watched an episode in your life (like me) there is so much to enjoy about this amazingly well preserved walled city.

Views From The Walls

The food that is a must try in this region is their oysters and taking a tour to the town of Ston the “Oyster Capital” is a great day out for lovers of seafood. Of course, if you choose to stay in the city of Dubrovnik there is plenty to do, see and eat. I recommend taking a trip up the Dubrovnik Cable Car to get a panorama of the city from up above. If you have enough time, then walk the entirety of the Dubrovnik Walls for a closer vista of the city. These options are where you will find the best views of the city and get those stunning shots to make all of your friends jealous of your amazing cruise holiday.

Naples / Sorrento, Italy

It is true – Naples is the birthplace of pizza making it a mecca for foodies around the world. But I want to tell you about one of my all-time favorite Mediterranean cruise destinations that you can reach from the port of Naples: Sorrento.

I Love Sorrento!!! This small town hangs off the cliffs, as well as sitting below them on the azure harbor in the gulf of Naples.

An interesting shore excursion you can do here is to experience the beer history of the area. Italy is obviously well known for its wines, but on a nice warm summers day, a few local varieties of beers can go quite nicely while savoring the views of Sorrento. There are also some darling shops that you can pick up souvenirs to take home and I 100% recommend trying the local limoncello (Lemon Liqueur) – it’s heavenly!

Kotor, Montenegro

The country of Montenegro is relatively unknown compared to its famous neighbor Croatia, but they certainly have a lot going for them in terms of breathtaking natural beauty and old Venetian cities. Kotor has been one of our favorite cruise destinations for a long time. It’s nestled at the end of a long inlet from the Adriatic Sea. You’ll be surrounded by mountains as you sail in through these narrow bays. Once there, you have many ways to enjoy the city and bay:

Want to sit by the water and soak in the mountain views – you can do that.

Feeling a bit more active and what to hike up St John’s Fortress to get views like this…

…you can do that too.

The main thing that is sure to win you over is the Montenegrin hospitality. People here are friendly and truly want you to experience the best that their country has to offer. Also, make sure to book a shore excursion that takes you into a family home, this is where you will see hospitality at it’s finest and get to sample freshly made bread with anchovies, olive oil, and fish pâté. The seafood in this region is sensational and a must try! Don’t miss the cuttlefish black risotto, cooked in its own ink.

Corfu, Greece

The island of Corfu Greece has been a popular destination for tourists since the 1960s and yet today it still comes across with authentic Greek charm. The beautiful crystal clear water, the old fortresses that have withstood some serious invasion attempts. The cobblestone streets with today’s clean laundry hanging high above them. It all comes together to give you the perfect taste of Greece mixed with a touch of Venetian history as well.

We’ve been to Corfu many times and one thing that continues to impress us is the freshness and the quality of the food. The people of the island are very proud of their local produce and work well together to make sure that all guests to the island get only the very best in Corfiot gastronomy.

For a nice taste test of local produce make sure you book yourself on a foodie walking tour. It’s a great insight to the Corfiot way of life.

Chania, Greece

Another incredible island of Greece, that is known for its gastronomy, is Crete. The people of this island have such a strong connection with their food that eating and drinking is very much a celebration of life in Crete. And why not – they have one of the highest populations of citizens who live to over 100 years old, in the world. A feat they say is due to the quality (and quantity) of their olive oil, among other things.

Celebrity Mediterranean Cruise Destinations: Cooking With Fresh Produce In Crete

Crete has a very unique landscape with unusual microclimates which lead to a variety of food being grown here. Discover local lemon, almond, walnut, fig, and pepper trees, as well as rosemary, thyme, and grapes all of which is used in their famous cuisine. Make sure to sample their local wine and of course, olive oil – it may be the freshest you’ll taste in the world.

Aside from oodles of history, and one of the largest cathedrals in Europe, every foodie will find something to please the tastebuds in Seville.

Florence, Italy (Port of Livorno)

A trip to Italy isn’t complete without visiting an Italian vineyard and if you’ll be porting in the town of Livorno, why not make it a Tuscan vineyard? Tuscany is the home of Chianti wine. And in one day you can go from sipping a glorious red, surrounded by vines, to visiting Florence or Pisa as well.

Experience the Italian countryside, which still has it’s old world charm. Discover through a guided tour of the ancient cellars how some of the most world famous wine producers grow and produce their grapes and the process required to make them into the wine we love, all while munching on some local varieties of salami and bruschetta.

If beer is more your thing then there is a great trip to discover the local Tuscan beers being produced in the area. Organic Brewery Torre a Cenaia is your destination and you can sample some of their house beers. They have everything from a Pilsner to an IPA, so I’m sure there is an artisanal flavor to suit all beer fans.
